unity clue 4 from Making A Lather

It started out pleasant enough, clue 4 for unity mystery quilt, required a lot of cutting. I like to cut.

The quilt needed a lot of HSTs. I like chain piecing.

But, this is when it gets dicey. Apparently, everything needed trimmed. I don't like trimming, so, I didn't. I started making the blocks, nine patch style, and they looked fine, until, I trimmed the whole blocks. I started making the rows, and, I was losing 60 % of the points. Drat. I couldn't live with that. I decided to take all the blocks apart. I realized that ...

frolic is a top? from Making A Lather

The top for quiltville frolic mystery quilt is finished as per the pattern. And, I was ready to quilt it. I realized, if I add borders, it would be bigger for a bed.
I didn't plan on going bigger, but, it seems an off - size this way.
It stalls until I make a decision.

When I took to quilting in earnest, borders were my least favorite part of the process. I left many almost finished quilts in the ufo pile to avoid borders. I had to decide how to fix that problem. It wasn't easy, but, I can ...

I'm pretty excited to finish the 3rd clue for the unity mystery quilt. It took forever. And it was top of my to do list for last week.

we have been doing outdoor work, and we are feeling our age. With both hubby and I having bad backs for so long, we have let too much go. Hopefully, this summer, we can play catch up with the outdoors.

unity quilt 3 from Making A Lather

I tried to make progress on the unity mystery quilt last week. I have all the pieces cut, sewn and the stars sewn together. They are so cute, but, it seemed to take forever to make them. The reveal for old country mystery quilt came out and I really want to work on that. We have been outside more and I have been quilting on the longarm.

The flying geese were the littlest I have ever made. It was important to make sure the red was on the right and aqua on the left.

Did I mention they are very ...

to do to plant from Making A Lather

We ventured out to a rural greenhouse last week to get plants for the garden. It was a really enjoyable chance to to stretch our legs and get a little Spring in our step. The sack contains asparagus starts and the rest were tomatoes and peppers. It is still feels too cold to plant them, here, but, it is supposed to get warm later this week.

We start a few plants ourselves, but, we have best of luck with purchased starts.

How did the week go?

Last week's to do:
1. cut unity mystery clue 2 - done

2. cut ...

unity 2 finish from Making A Lather

Once I had all the pieces cut and sewn, It was finally time to make the rows for the unity mystery quilt. I have not done a medallion quilt before, and, I am sure it requires that the pieces fit for each round. It is a different approach for a mystery than Bonnie Hunter has done before now. So, at this point, I am a little worried about my piecing.

On the plus side, this was not the 800 pieces I am used to in a Bonnie quilt. It went quickly. And, tada, it fit nicely. It feels like a ...

progress from Making A Lather

Last week's to do:
1. cut unity mystery clue 2 - done

2. cut old world mystery 4 - done

3. mow - done I am getting better at this
4. cut shirt scraps - done
I had this bag of scraps and I wanted to cut them into triangles.

I didn't count how many triangles I made. If it didn't make a triangle, it went into a string and crumb bag. I had 3 1/2 in, and 2 1/2 in, and a few 2 in. There is no particular plan, just cutting the scraps from cut offs when ...

unity 2 from Making A Lather

Using my scrap user's system 2 x 3 1/2 inch rectangles,

and, my 2 inch squares, I was able to start work on clue 2 of the quiltville unity mystery.

I have all the pieces and parts ready to build the next row. The pieces are little, but, since we are still in the center of the quilt, it needs to be smaller. I am behind, but I am not in a hurry. It has been a cold Spring, but still beautiful and welcome. I am spending more time outside as the mowing falls to me as my ...

A new goal from Making A Lather

It's time for choosing my goals for the month of April and the one monthly goal at elm street quilts. I had it assembled here in January.
I did not work on my basket quilt last two months. I want to add the borders and get it quilted. I am not sure how to quilt this yet.

I have this quilt - Sparkle punch that has been in the "to be quilted" pile for a few years. I think it is time to move it to the finished pile. The top is done, but, I need the back, and binding ...
